Astrotech unit to develop lunar power utility network

Astrotech Corp.'s subsidiary, Astrotech Space Operations, plans to develop a lunar power utility network to support extended missions and commercial ventures on the moon.

The initiative, disclosed on Wednesday, outlines a framework for deploying infrastructure capable of generating, storing and distributing power in the lunar environment. The network is intended to serve as a critical backbone for sustained human presence and robotic operations on the lunar surface.

Astrotech Space Operations, a provider of space logistics and payload processing services, stated that the project aligns with broader efforts to establish sustainable lunar infrastructure ahead of NASA's Artemis program and other international missions. The company did not provide a timeline or detailed cost estimates for the network.

Industry analysts note that reliable power systems are essential for lunar operations, including habitats, scientific instruments and resource extraction activities. The proposed network could leverage solar arrays, nuclear power units or other emerging technologies to meet energy demands in the moon's harsh environment.

Astrotech Corp. trades under the ticker ASTC on the Nasdaq. The company's shares were little changed in recent trading sessions as details of the lunar power project remain preliminary.
