Yorkshire Building Society to redeem £300m senior notes early
Building society reportedly plans to call £300m of 5.5% senior unsecured bonds reportedly due 2029 ahead of maturity, citing favorable market conditions.

Yorkshire Building Society said on Monday it will redeem £300 million of its 5.5% senior unsecured notes reportedly due in 2029 ahead of schedule, citing improved market conditions.
The redemption is scheduled for June 17, 2025, and will be funded from the society’s existing liquidity resources. The bonds, reportedly issued in 2019, carry a fixed coupon of 5.5% and were priced at par.
Early redemption of debt instruments is typically pursued when issuers anticipate lower refinancing costs or wish to reduce interest expenses. The society did not disclose the yield at which it expects to replace the debt, if at all.
Yorkshire Building Society, reportedly one of the UK’s largest building societies, operates primarily in residential mortgages and savings products. The decision follows a period of reportedly heightened volatility in UK credit markets, though recent conditions have reportedly stabilized.
Analysts noted that early redemptions by financial institutions have reportedly become more common as issuers seek to optimize capital structures amid shifting interest rate expectations. The move may also reflect confidence in the society’s liquidity position.
The redemption will be executed through a cash call, with bondholders receiving full principal plus accrued interest up to the redemption date.
