Jaguar Health Inc.'s (NASDAQ: JAGX) Napo unit has advanced its microvillus inclusion disease (MVID) trial, with data presented at the 58th Annual European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition Meeting in June. The trial, which involves crofelemer, a powder for oral solution or liquid, is expected to lead to a New Drug Application (NDA) filing for MVID treatment by mid-2027.
MVID is an ultrarare pediatric disorder with an estimated worldwide prevalence of 200 patients. Patients with intestinal failure, including MVID or short bowel syndrome, require lifelong total parenteral nutrition, with up to 7 days per week and up to 20 hours per day. The data presented at the meeting showed that an independent Data Monitoring Committee evaluated the safety and tolerability of crofelemer during the randomized double-blind crossover period and authorized continuation of active crofelemer treatment for a longer period in the extension phase.
Lisa Conte, Founder, President, and CEO of Jaguar Health, stated that the company's intestinal failure program is expected to provide clinical milestones, including an NDA filing for MVID and the completion of a Phase 2 study in short bowel syndrome with intestinal failure by mid-2027.
