Enphase Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: ENPH) has announced that its IQ Meter Collar, a microgrid interconnection device, has received approval from 80 utilities serving over 38 million customers across the United States and Canada. The device is designed to mount behind the utility meter or on a standalone meter socket, enabling whole-home backup without the need for circuits to be moved to a dedicated backup sub-panel or the installation of additional consumption current transformers. This helps reduce equipment, wiring complexity, and installation time.
The IQ Meter Collar is part of Enphase Energy's 4th-generation energy system, which includes the IQ Battery 10C and the IQ Combiner 6C. The device carries a 15-year limited warranty. Enphase Energy, based in Fremont, California, manufactures microinverter-based solar and battery systems, having shipped approximately 89.4 million microinverters and deployed around 5.3 million Enphase-based systems in over 165 countries.
The approvals come from all three major investor-owned electric utilities in California, as well as the Sacramento Municipal Utility District. Hawaiian Electric has approved initial pilot installations, with full approval expected in the coming months. Ken Fong, Senior Vice President of Sales at Enphase Energy, stated, "Utility approvals are critical to scaling whole-home backup. With the IQ Meter Collar now approved by 80 utilities, we are removing a key barrier to battery adoption."
