The German DAX erased early session gains on Wednesday, dropping 0.5% to 25,460 points by midday. The index remained anchored to its 50‑day moving‑average line, a level that has defined the medium‑term trend.
The MDAX of mid‑cap stocks also weakened, losing 0.4% to finish around 31,400 points. Within the index, Siltronic fell about 3% while Wacker Chemie rose roughly 2% after the latter increased its stake in the wafer‑maker.
Consorsbank chief market analyst Jochen Stanzl said the market is caught between two opposing narratives: hopes for a diplomatic resolution to the Iran conflict and heightened political uncertainty after recent German state‑level election setbacks. He described the result as a stalemate between buyers and sellers.
Analysts also noted broader geopolitical factors. Merics director Mikko Huotari down‑played expectations surrounding Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States, saying the summit is unlikely to produce a breakthrough and that both sides seek more time to avoid escalation, especially in the AI technology race.
Individual stocks showed varied reactions. KWS Saat plunged more than 9% on the SDAX after a disappointing outlook for fiscal year 2025/26. Bernstein Research comments nudged Gea Group shares down nearly 1% and Krones shares down about 3% following a cautious view on the company’s 2027 order intake and 2028 revenue targets.
