Xylem Inc. shares fell 3.4% in midday trading Wednesday, extending losses to a session low of $112.50, as the water technology company disclosed the abrupt departure of Chief Financial Officer William Grogan.
Grogan will leave Xylem to assume the CFO role at GE HealthCare, effective upon the completion of a transition period. Andrea van der Berg, currently Senior Vice President of Finance for Xylem’s Water Infrastructure segment, has been named as his successor, with a planned start date of September 1, 2026. Grogan is expected to remain with Xylem through mid-September to assist with the handover, according to a company announcement and an SEC Form 8-K filing.
Grogan joined Xylem in 2023 and played a central role in integrating the acquisition of Evoqua Water Technologies. He brings more than two decades of financial leadership experience to the role, the company stated.
Xylem reaffirmed its financial guidance for the third quarter and full-year 2026, which was initially issued on July 28, 2026. The guidance remains unchanged despite the executive transition.
The broader market context added pressure to Xylem’s shares, with the S&P 500 declining as long-term Treasury yields climbed to their highest levels since 2007. Rising oil prices, driven by escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz amid a prolonged U.S.-Iran standoff, further weighed on investor sentiment. The Nasdaq also underperformed, reflecting weakness across technology and semiconductor equities.
