XPeng’s robotics division has secured more than $900 million in a single funding round, marking the largest private financing ever recorded in China’s embedded artificial intelligence sector, according to company and market data.
The capital infusion values the division at over $6.3 billion, with XPeng retaining controlling equity. The unit will remain consolidated within XPeng’s financial statements, the company said. The financing round drew participation from major backers including IDG Capital, Gaorong Ventures, Tencent and Alibaba.
The proceeds will support the mass production of XPeng’s IRON humanoid robot, which is equipped with 76 degrees of freedom across its body and 21 degrees of freedom in each hand. The robot operates on three Turing AI chips and delivers up to 2,250 TOPS of computational power, enabling autonomous task execution without remote control, XPeng stated.
XPeng projects starting mass production of the IRON robot by the end of 2026, with initial deployments planned in the company’s retail stores and campuses around the same time. Commercial deliveries to customers in China and overseas are scheduled to begin in 2027.
XPeng’s shares, listed on the New York Stock Exchange under ticker XPEV and on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under 9868, closed at $12.19 on August 21, up 1.58%, before declining to $11.97 in after-hours trading. Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said the funding had enabled the company to pioneer a new phase of mass production and commercial deployment of advanced humanoid robots.
