A survey commissioned by crypto exchange OKX found that 90% of U.S. college students and 87% of parents support the inclusion of cryptocurrency and blockchain courses in higher education curricula. The demand for such instruction appears to exceed current academic offerings, with only 28% of 533 accredited U.S. business schools offering blockchain-related courses, according to a 2025 review.
Among students surveyed, 33% identified social media or influencers as their primary source of crypto information, a figure nearly five times higher than those citing educational institutions or professors. Parents, by contrast, reported crypto platforms and apps as their leading source of crypto knowledge, at 21%.
The OKX-commissioned survey polled 500 students and 500 parents via Pollfish, an online survey platform. Respondents were not recruited from OKX’s customer base, and the exchange did not disclose survey weighting, margin of error, or respondents’ crypto ownership rates.
The findings highlight a gap between student and parental interest in crypto education and the availability of formal academic programs. While colleges lag in course offerings, informal channels—particularly social media—dominate as the go-to resource for crypto learning.
