U.S. private employers added an average of 11,750 jobs per week during the four-week period ending August 8, according to ADP’s weekly NER Pulse report.
The latest figures mark a second consecutive week of gains but remain well below the 30,750-job weekly average recorded for the period ending May 30. Hiring momentum has steadily declined since late spring, with the four-week average falling from 29,000 jobs in the week ending May 23 to 21,000 by June 20, before dropping to 11,000 by July 18 and further to 8,250 by July 25.
The NER Pulse, a weekly update tied to ADP’s monthly National Employment Report, provides seasonally adjusted data with a two-week reporting lag. Figures are preliminary and subject to revision as additional data is incorporated. The report is produced by ADP Research in partnership with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab and released every Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. ET, except during weeks when ADP publishes its full monthly employment report.
ADP, which provides HR and payroll services to more than 1.1 million clients across 140 countries, is listed on the NASDAQ under the ticker ADP and is headquartered in Roseland, New Jersey. The next NER Pulse is scheduled for release on September 8.
