Universe Pharmaceuticals Inc’s shares advanced 22.6% in pre-market trading on Wednesday, reaching $5.23, following the completion of its acquisition of Best Praise International Limited on July 31.
The deal added five early-stage pharmaceutical patents in China, covering treatments for age-related diseases, neurodegenerative and cognitive disorders, cardiovascular applications, antibacterial compounds and drug delivery technologies. The company, categorized as a micro-cap Chinese pharmaceutical firm, has seen its stock price rise from a previous close of $4.27.
Pre-market data indicated the stock at $5.25, up $0.98 or 22.95%, though broader equity benchmarks showed mixed performance. The S&P 500 slipped 0.2%, while the Dow Jones edged down 0.1% and the Nasdaq fell 0.6%.
Analysts attributed the move to speculative momentum in a thinly traded micro-cap stock with a constrained float, rather than any new corporate announcement, earnings release or analyst upgrade on Wednesday. The company has a history of sharp reversals following rapid spikes, according to market observers.
