Shares of Universe Pharmaceuticals Inc surged 22.6% in pre-market trading on Wednesday, lifting the stock to $5.23. The advance followed the company’s acquisition of Best Praise International Limited, finalized on July 31, 2026.
The deal added five early-stage pharmaceutical patents in China covering aging-related diseases, neurodegenerative and cognitive disorders, cardiovascular applications, antibacterial compounds, and drug delivery technologies. Universe Pharmaceuticals, a Chinese micro-capitalization drugmaker, did not cite a recent earnings report, filing, or analyst action as the direct trigger for the pre-market surge.
Market benchmarks showed modest declines during the same pre-market session, with the S&P 500 down 0.2%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.1%, and the Nasdaq Composite down 0.6%. Analysts attributed the stock’s movement to speculative momentum in a low-liquidity, highly volatile micro-cap stock with a reduced float, rather than an immediate discrete catalyst on the day of trading.
