Natural gas futures declined during the U.S. trading session on Friday, with the October contract falling 1.89% to $2.86 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX).
The contract faced downward pressure throughout the session, with technical levels indicating support at $2.747 and resistance at $2.990. The broader energy complex also showed weakness, as crude oil for October delivery lost 0.28% to $83.30 per barrel.
In contrast, the U.S. Dollar Index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, advanced 0.57% to 99.65. Heating oil for September delivery bucked the trend, rising 1.10% to $4.33 per gallon.
The decline in natural gas futures reflects ongoing volatility in energy markets amid shifting supply-demand dynamics and macroeconomic conditions.
