Trump-linked WLF delays Maldives resort token sale amid regional instability
World Liberty Financial postpones token offering for Maldives resort due to geopolitical tensions disrupting regional travel. No new timeline provided.

World Liberty Financial, the cryptocurrency venture linked to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s family, has delayed plans to sell a token tied to a Maldives resort, citing geopolitical instability in the region.
The token sale was originally scheduled for this month but has been postponed indefinitely as ongoing tensions between Iran and neighboring states disrupt travel and business operations in the area. World Liberty Financial did not specify a new timeline for the offering in a statement released Thursday.
The project, which aims to tokenize ownership of the Maldives-based luxury resort, was announced in June as part of WLF’s broader push into digital assets. The venture, led by Trump’s son Barron and son-in-law Jared Kushner, has positioned the token as a means for fractionalized real estate investment in the Maldives’ tourism sector.
Regional instability has weighed on travel demand in the Maldives, a key economic driver for the island nation. The country’s tourism ministry reported a 15% decline in visitor arrivals in July compared with the same period last year, partly attributed to safety concerns amid escalating regional conflicts.
World Liberty Financial did not disclose whether the token’s structure or pricing would be adjusted in light of the delays. The company has previously stated that the offering would be conducted through its proprietary blockchain platform, though technical details remain undisclosed.
Analysts note that geopolitical risks have increasingly impacted crypto-related ventures in emerging markets, where regulatory and security concerns often deter investor participation. The delay underscores the challenges facing tokenized real estate projects in regions facing political or military instability.
