Chinese gaming and AI platform The9 Ltd. posted a 39% sequential increase in net income to $32 million in the second quarter of 2026, while revenue reached $12.84 million. The company’s first-half net income totaled $55 million, marking its strongest half-year result since its 2004 initial public offering.
The9’s shares surged 43.93% on Aug. 24, closing at $4.62 from the prior session’s $3.21. The stock later traded at $5.65 in premarket activity, down 2.25% from the previous close of $5.78. The company’s market capitalization stood at $88.28 million, with a 52-week range of $3.14 to $11.60 and a beta of 2.09.
During the earnings call, CEO George Lai highlighted The9’s dual focus on traditional online gaming and digital asset operations, including Bitcoin mining and treasury management. The company also emphasized its expansion into AI-generated content and user-generated gaming, positioning itself to build a token economy around these initiatives.
The9’s AI gaming platform, The9bit, launched in August 2025, has amassed over 8 million registered users and more than 110,000 games created by its community. The platform leverages AI tools to enable users to develop playable games without traditional coding expertise. The9bit has secured 41 brand partners, with 127 additional partnerships in the pipeline.
The company’s 9BIT token, issued under a cooperation agreement with the Panama-based 9BIT Foundation, was trading near $0.05 as of Aug. 24, up from roughly $0.003 at its December 2025 debut. Daily trading volume for the token has reached approximately $10 million on crypto exchanges.
The9 also outlined plans to merge with NYB, an AI-driven drug discovery company, through a business combination with RFAI, a special purpose acquisition company. If RFAI’s share price remains stable, the combined entity is expected to have a market capitalization of about $7.7 billion, with The9 holding roughly 15%-16% of the new company after the deal closes.
For the full year 2026, The9 forecast revenue of $16.05 million, while its earnings per share projection for 2027 stands at negative $3.92. The company’s gross profit margin over the last 12 months, as of Q1 2026, was 2.89%.
