Tesla Inc. will expand sales of its electric Semi truck to Europe following its delayed U.S. launch, the automaker announced on social media platform X.
Details about the Semi’s specifications and introduction timeline will be presented at the IAA Commercial Vehicles trade fair in Hanover, Germany, scheduled for September 15-20. A press event is planned for September 14.
The Tesla Semi was first unveiled in 2017, with an initial production target of 2019. Delays pushed the launch into 2023, as Tesla prioritized battery supply for higher-volume models like the Model 3. Large-scale manufacturing began at the company’s Nevada factory in April of this year.
Early deliveries in the U.S. have already been made to customers including PepsiCo. Tesla estimates the Semi offers a range of up to 800 kilometers per charge, positioning it against existing electric trucks from European manufacturers.
The Semi was previously showcased at the IAA Commercial Vehicles event two years ago, signaling Tesla’s long-term commitment to the heavy-duty electric vehicle segment despite earlier setbacks.
