Teradata Corporation used Citi’s 2026 Global Technology, Media and Telecom conference on Sept. 9 to detail its shift toward cloud‑centric and AI‑enabled offerings. CEO Steve McMillan, who joined the firm in June 2020, noted that about 50 % of the company’s recurring revenue now comes from cloud services, up from a predominantly on‑premise model.
The company’s latest platform, the Teradata Autonomous Knowledge Platform – also called Teradata 3.0 – was introduced in May 2026 at a New York festival. McMillan described it as a “complete architecture and framework” that “agentifies” the technology, adding new capabilities across every stack layer. A related product, Tera, is positioned as “the Claude for data,” referencing the AI model’s conversational abilities.
Teradata’s hybrid approach remains central: roughly half of its cloud customers retain on‑premise installations, allowing data sovereignty for enterprises that keep data within private data centers. The firm’s Dynamic Compute Engine, launched in June 2026, and the earlier Active Compute Engine aim to streamline workloads across cloud and on‑premise environments.
McMillan highlighted a 14‑month tenure for the new chief product officer and a typical 6‑to‑9‑month sales cycle for enterprise software deals generated through Forward Deployed Engineering proof‑of‑concepts. He cited a recent survey of about 1,000 data leaders that underpins the company’s product roadmap.
R&D spending totals $110 million, directed at platform differentiation and AI innovation. Teradata expects annual recurring revenue (ARR) growth to accelerate in 2026, building on a return to ARR growth in 2025 and continued retention improvements. The firm projects that new products will fully contribute to monetisation by 2027.
Looking ahead, Teradata plans its next major industry event, the “Autonomous” conference, for late November 2026 in Dallas, which is already near capacity and may require a venue change. The company also referenced its InvestingPro Fair Value calculator, which uses 17 proven industry valuation models, and its Pro Research Reports covering more than 1,400 U.S. equities.
