Tata Motors Q1 FY27 volume up 26%, EV orders surge

Tata Motors reported a 26% year-over-year increase in vehicle volumes for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, driven by robust demand across segments and a sharp rise in electric vehicle (EV) orders.

The company’s quarterly results presentation indicated that total vehicle dispatches rose to 425,000 units, up from 338,000 units in the same period last year. EV dispatches surged 140% to 42,000 units, reflecting accelerating adoption of battery-powered models in India’s passenger vehicle market.

Tata Motors attributed the growth to sustained demand for its EV portfolio, including the Nexon EV and Tigor EV, as well as strong performance in its commercial vehicle and passenger car segments. The company also highlighted improved supply chain efficiencies and expanded dealer networks as key contributors to the volume increase.

Analysts noted that the surge in EV orders aligns with India’s broader push toward electrification, supported by government incentives and rising consumer preference for sustainable mobility solutions. The company’s domestic market share in EVs expanded to 65%, reinforcing its leadership in India’s fast-growing electric vehicle segment.

Tata Motors did not disclose detailed financial metrics in the presentation, though it reiterated its commitment to expanding production capacity and investing in battery technology to meet rising demand. The company plans to launch at least three new EV models in the next 12 months, targeting both urban and rural markets.

Shares of Tata Motors were up 3.2% in early trading on Tuesday, extending gains from the previous session as investors reacted to the volume growth and EV momentum.
