Taiwan stocks ended lower on Wednesday, with the Taiwan Weighted Index down 1.47% as losses in the Plastic and Chemical sectors weighed on the broader market.
Decliners outnumbered advancers by 609 to 390 on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, with 121 issues unchanged. The index fell to close at 21,234.50, reflecting broad-based selling pressure.
Among the top gainers, Desiccant Technology Corp led with a 9.95% rise, adding 19.00 points to close at 210.00. Merida Industry Co Ltd advanced 9.93%, or 8.00 points, to 88.60, while Nichidenbo Corp climbed 9.91%, or 16.00 points, to 177.50.
The sharpest declines were seen in Ta Liang Technology Co Ltd, which dropped 10.00%, or 77.00 points, to 693.00. Solomon Technology Corp fell 9.30%, or 16.50 points, to 161.00, and Taiwan Microloops Corp slid 8.55%, or 56.00 points, to 599.00.
In commodities, October crude oil futures rose 1.09% to $84.98 per barrel, while Brent oil for October delivery increased 0.97% to $91.90. December gold futures, however, declined 0.66% to $4,391.25 per troy ounce.
The U.S. dollar edged lower against the New Taiwan dollar, with the USD/TWD rate down 0.15% to 31.90. The U.S. Dollar Index futures fell 0.13% to 99.43.
