Taiwan stocks end flat as gains offset losses

Taiwan’s stock market ended largely unchanged on Tuesday, with the Taiwan Weighted index closing flat after a session of volatility.

The index, which tracks the performance of all listed stocks on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, held near the unchanged mark throughout the day. Early gains driven by gains in technology and financial shares were largely erased by midday as investors took profits following recent rallies.

Trading volume was modest, reflecting a cautious stance among market participants. The broader market sentiment remained fragile, with some sectors outperforming while others lagged. Technology stocks, a key driver of the market, saw mixed performance as chipmakers and electronics firms diverged in their movements.

Analysts attributed the lack of directional momentum to uncertainty over global economic conditions and concerns about potential policy shifts in major economies. The absence of significant macroeconomic data releases or corporate earnings updates also contributed to the subdued trading environment.

The Taiwan Weighted index, which serves as the primary benchmark for Taiwanese equities, closed at 22,150.30 points, effectively unchanged from the previous session’s close of 22,148.75 points.
