Symbiotic, a collateral markets platform backed by Paradigm, Pantera Capital and Coinbase Ventures, has appointed Mahendran Nathan as its global head of onchain solutions. Nathan will be based in Singapore and oversee the firm’s push to attract institutional capital into onchain markets.
Nathan previously served as chief executive and regional head for Asia Pacific at Société Générale Asset Management, where he scaled assets under management from $300 million to $15 billion over seven years. He later held the role of CEO for ASEAN, Hong Kong, Taiwan and India at Russell Investments. Since 2022, he has worked as an allocator across public and private markets.
Symbiotic’s hiring underscores its focus on investment structures, governance and reporting to facilitate institutional participation in onchain markets. The company targets pension funds, insurers and sovereign wealth funds as key participants in its platform.
Misha Putiatin, co-founder of Symbiotic, said the appointment brings the firm closer to realizing institutional-scale onchain markets. Nathan took up his role in August, according to the company.
