Sunshine Biopharma Inc. (NASDAQ: SBFM) reported progress on its K1.1 mRNA cancer therapy program, highlighting preclinical data that demonstrate tumor-suppressing activity across multiple cancer types.
The company’s mRNA lipid nanoparticle program targets a tumor suppressor gene frequently mutated in hepatocellular carcinoma, non-small cell lung cancer and pancreatic cancer. In animal studies, K1.1 showed dose-dependent restoration of the target gene in grafted liver tumors using at least two orthotopic mouse models. Laboratory tests further revealed antiproliferative effects in several non-small cell lung cancer cell lines.
Sunshine Biopharma plans to combine K1.1 with a cancer vaccine targeting associated antigens for non-small cell lung cancer treatment, aiming to convert immunologically inactive tumors into active ones. The company, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, currently markets 60 generic prescription drugs in Canada and is developing a PLpro protease inhibitor for SARS coronavirus infections.
Chief Executive Officer Steve Slilaty stated that the K1.1 mRNA program’s results validate the company’s tumor suppressor restoration strategy. Separately, Sunshine Biopharma intends to launch approximately 12 additional generic drugs in Canada during the remainder of 2026.
