Starwood Capital Promotes Tim Abram to Lead European Assets

Starwood Capital Group promoted Tim Abram to head of asset management, Europe, the Miami-based private investment firm said.

Abram, who is based in London, has been with Starwood since 2015. He will retain his post as head of international hotels and previously served as co-head of the firm’s Global Hotel Group starting in 2024. He was elevated to managing director in 2023.

In his expanded capacity, Abram will work alongside Matt Parrott and Francesco Zanella, the firm’s co-heads of European acquisitions, chairman and CEO Barry Sternlicht said.

Before joining Starwood, Abram held roles at both UBS and Citigroup. At UBS in London, he was associate director in real estate, lodging and leisure investment banking. Earlier, he worked in the distressed debt group at Citi in London. He holds a first-class BSc in economics from University College London and an MSc in finance from the London School of Economics.

Starwood is deploying capital from its $10.2 billion opportunity fund. In July, the firm completed the final closing of Starwood Distressed Opportunity Fund XIII, securing commitments exceeding $10.2 billion from more than 300 investors across roughly 20 countries.

Since its founding in 1991, Starwood has raised over $95 billion in capital. The firm currently manages approximately $130 billion in assets. Its listed affiliate, Starwood Property Trust (NYSE: STWD), is described by the company as the largest commercial mortgage real estate investment trust in the United States.
