Spain’s IBEX 35 index advanced 0.05% to close higher on Wednesday, with gains in financial services, real estate and consumer sectors offsetting declines in industrials and telecommunications.
The Madrid benchmark ended the session with 105 decliners against 79 advancers, while 18 stocks were unchanged. The index’s modest rise followed mixed performances across European peers, with regional benchmarks showing limited directional momentum.
Acerinox led the advancers, climbing 3.19% to 17.80, while ArcelorMittal added 2.93% to 64.54. Puig Brands also contributed, rising 1.73% to 18.19. On the downside, Ferrovial slumped 4.95% to 51.42, the largest single-stock decline, followed by Telefonica’s 2.04% drop to 3.61 and Banco de Sabadell’s 1.27% fall to 3.65.
Commodities showed divergent trends, with gold futures for December delivery falling 0.84% to $4,654.94 per troy ounce. Crude oil prices edged higher, with October WTI up 0.58% to $82.84 a barrel and November Brent rising 0.58% to $87.78 a barrel.
The euro held steady against the dollar, with EUR/USD flat at 1.17, while EUR/GBP was little changed at 0.86. The U.S. Dollar Index futures rose 0.25% to 99.08.
