Spain's IBEX 35 index closed 0.44% lower on Wednesday after declines in financial services, real estate, chemicals, petroleum, plastics and construction sectors offset gains elsewhere on the Madrid Stock Exchange.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 105 to 84, with 21 equities unchanged at the close. The index ended at 11,723.40 points, reflecting broad-based weakness across major sector groups.
Grifols SA led gainers with a 3.32% rise to 10.08, followed by Laboratorios Farmaceuticos ROVI, which added 2.93% to 59.70. Industria de Diseno Textil SA advanced 2.14% to 58.28. Among decliners, Caixabank SA fell 2.01% to 12.70, Unicaja Banco SA dropped 1.89% to 3.52 and Indra A declined 1.82% to 61.64.
Commodity markets showed strength, with gold futures for December delivery up 3.02% at $4,554.30 per troy ounce. Crude oil for October delivery rose 1.71% to $85.50 per barrel, while the Brent October contract gained 1.57% to $92.45. The euro strengthened 0.79% against the dollar to 1.17, while the U.S. Dollar Index futures fell 0.77% to 98.79.
