Spain’s benchmark IBEX 35 index declined 0.24% at the close in Madrid on Tuesday, as losses in building and construction, consumer services, and financial services offset modest gains in energy shares.
Declining issues outnumbered advancers by 112 to 74, with 20 stocks unchanged. The index’s modest retreat followed a session marked by sectoral divergence, as utilities and energy names posted gains while cyclical sectors lagged.
Among the top performers, Naturgy Energy Group SA led with a 2.21% rise to 29.54 euros, followed by Repsol, which added 1.77% to 27.54 euros, nearing all-time highs. Solar energy developer Solaria Energia y Medio Ambiente also advanced 1.71% to 16.70 euros.
The worst performers included Acerinox, which fell 3.22% to 17.46 euros, airline group IAG, down 2.51% to 4.98 euros, and steelmaker ArcelorMittal, which declined 2.37% to 61.74 euros.
Commodities showed mixed signals, with gold futures for December delivery down 1.10% at $4,424.42 per troy ounce. Crude oil prices rose, with October WTI up 0.86% at $84.46 per barrel and Brent up 0.62% at $91.43 per barrel. The euro held steady against the dollar, trading flat at 1.16, while the US Dollar Index slipped 0.04% to 99.50.
