SpaceX’s xAI plans to double Nvidia AI chip capacity at Memphis data center by year-end

SpaceX’s xAI subsidiary is accelerating plans to expand its Memphis-based data center, Colossus 2, with a significant ramp-up in Nvidia’s latest AI accelerators by year-end. The facility, which Musk has described as the world’s largest AI supercomputer, currently employs 110,000 GB200 chips and 440,000 GB300 chips. Additional shipments of 220,000 GB300 chips are expected to arrive in the coming weeks, with further orders planned for November and potentially another 220,000 units by late December, though Musk noted this last batch would depend on “getting lucky.” Together, these additions would nearly double the center’s capacity for advanced Nvidia chips, according to early reports from Musk on social media.
