South Africa’s retail sales grew 1.6% year-on-year in June, down from a revised 2.2% increase in May, according to data published by Statistics South Africa on Wednesday.
Seasonally adjusted retail sales declined by 0.6% month-on-month, reflecting a moderation in consumer spending. The figures, measured at constant prices, indicate a deceleration in retail activity compared with the previous month.
The slowdown follows a period of relatively steady growth in consumer demand, with the annual expansion still positive but reduced from the prior month’s pace. The data provides insight into household spending trends amid evolving economic conditions.
