Santander buys back 20 million shares in ongoing program
Spanish lender completes 20 million share repurchase under its €1.5 billion buyback scheme. Program remains on track for full allocation by year-end.

Banco Santander said on Friday it repurchased 20 million of its own shares as part of its €1.5 billion buyback program announced in May. The transaction was executed under the program’s existing framework, which allows for purchases through year-end.
The buyback, conducted at market prices, forms part of the bank’s capital management strategy aimed at enhancing shareholder returns. Santander has not disclosed the average purchase price per share but confirmed the repurchases were completed within the program’s authorized parameters.
The €1.5 billion program follows the lender’s prior €1 billion buyback, which concluded in December 2023. Santander has emphasized its commitment to returning excess capital to shareholders while maintaining a strong balance sheet amid evolving economic conditions.
The repurchases are subject to regulatory approvals and market conditions, with the bank stating that the program remains on track for full allocation by the end of the year.
