Sandoz Group AG announced the opening of a new high‑volume biosimilar drug substance manufacturing centre in Lendava, Slovenia. The facility is built around smart automation, process‑analytical technology and a quality‑by‑design approach, and is designed to meet the highest international safety, quality and environmental standards.
The Lendava plant employs more than 300 experts and represents the second major biosimilar site Sandoz has completed in Slovenia this year, following the June launch of a biosimilar development centre in Ljubljana. Together with a recently announced investment in low‑ to mid‑volume commercial manufacturing in Ljubljana, the new site expands Sandoz’s end‑to‑end biosimilar network across Europe.
"The opening of this major facility is a significant milestone on our way to reaching our Bio100 goal," said Richard Saynor, Sandoz Chief Executive Officer. "By further strengthening our leading end‑to‑end biosimilar network in Europe, we are paving the way to meet rapidly growing demand for affordable, high‑quality biologic medicines and reinforce supply resilience and strategic autonomy."
Armin Metzger, President of Biosimilar Development, Manufacturing & Supply, added that Lendava completes a unique combination of low, medium and high‑volume production technologies across the company’s European sites, creating an ecosystem that can select the most appropriate technology for each product.
The plant’s launch is part of Sandoz’s Bio100 ambition, which aims to have more than 100 biosimilars in the portfolio by 2040. The company, listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange (SDZ) and OTCQX (SDZNY), recorded net sales of USD 11.1 billion in 2025. Sandoz employs over 20,000 colleagues of 100 nationalities, reaches more than one billion patients worldwide and maintains a portfolio of roughly 1,300 medicines.
Sandoz plans an investor and analyst site visit to the Slovenian hub on 9‑10 November. Attendance is by invitation only and the event will not be webcast.
The expansion underscores Sandoz’s focus on strengthening Europe’s biologic manufacturing base, enhancing supply‑chain resilience and supporting the company’s long‑term growth strategy.
