Russia plans to supply 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China annually starting in 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on Thursday.
The volumes will be delivered via the Power of Baikal pipeline, which is the renamed successor to the previously discussed Power of Siberia-2 project. The route will also traverse Kazakhstan to reach Chinese markets.
Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) are finalizing terms for the new pipeline, with an intergovernmental commission scheduled to review the proposal on Friday. The agreement reflects ongoing efforts to diversify export routes and strengthen energy ties between the two nations amid shifting global supply dynamics.
The Power of Baikal pipeline is expected to complement the existing Power of Siberia link, which currently supplies Russian gas to China. The new infrastructure underscores Russia’s strategy to expand its energy footprint in Asia while reducing reliance on European markets.
