Prudential Financial Inc's preferred shares fell to a 52-week low of $15.16 on Tuesday, extending a broader decline in the financial sector. The drop came as the company's preferred stock traded near its 52-week high of $18.72, reflecting a 9.4% year-over-year decline and an 11% slide over the past six months.
The company reported second-quarter after-tax adjusted operating income of $1.4 billion, or $4.08 per share, a 14% increase from the prior-year period. Growth was driven by asset management, group insurance, individual life and international operations. Despite the preferred shares' weakness, InvestingPro assigned the insurer a "GOOD" financial health score.
Prudential Financial continues to face headwinds, including the suspension of sales at its Japan unit, Prudential of Japan. The company has outlined a restructuring plan aimed at simplifying operations, reducing costs and reallocating capital toward higher-growth segments. The plan follows broader challenges in the financial sector amid shifting market conditions.
