Portugal’s benchmark PSI index advanced 0.44% at the close of trade on Friday, lifted by gains in the financials, utilities and telecoms sectors.
Advancing stocks on the Lisbon exchange outnumbered decliners 14 to 10, with five issues unchanged. The index’s performance reflected broad-based gains across key sectors, though gains were tempered by declines in energy and precious metals.
Among individual stocks, Banco Comercial Português led advancers, rising 1.17% to 1.12. EDP Renovaveis added 0.73% to 13.83, while Corticeira Amorim gained 0.71% to 7.07. On the downside, Ibersol SGPS fell 0.58% to 10.36, and Jerónimo Martins declined 0.17% to 17.97.
Commodities traded lower, with Brent crude for November delivery down 0.58% at $88.01 per barrel and October crude falling 0.51% to $83.10. December gold futures dropped 2.19% to $4,561.89 per troy ounce.
The euro weakened 0.51% against the dollar to 1.16, while the EUR/GBP cross was little changed at 0.86. The U.S. Dollar Index futures rose 0.47% to 99.56.
