Portugal’s PSI index declined 0.71% to close lower in Lisbon on Wednesday, as declines in financials, utilities and industrials outweighed gains in energy and food services.
The benchmark fell to 5,245.81 points at the close, with declining issues outnumbering advancers by 15 to 10, while four stocks were unchanged.
Among the top gainers, Ibersol SGPS led with a 2.03% rise to 10.04, followed by Galp Energia Nom at 1.61% to 21.46 and Jeronimo Martins SGPS at 0.59% to 17.18. On the downside, Banco Comercial Português fell 1.73% to 1.08, Teixeira Duarte dropped 1.64% to 0.48 and EDP Energias de Portugal declined 1.42% to 4.59.
Brent crude for October delivery advanced 1.59% to $92.47 a barrel, while U.S. crude for the same month rose 1.72% to $85.51. December gold futures gained 3.02% to $4,554.09 per troy ounce. The euro strengthened 0.78% against the dollar to 1.17, while the U.S. Dollar Index fell 0.77% to 98.79.
