Portugal’s benchmark PSI index slipped 0.60% on Thursday, as losses in energy and utilities offset gains in select consumer and technology names.
Declining issues outnumbered advancers by 15 to 12, with six stocks unchanged. The broad retreat reflected weakness in the energy and utilities sectors, where Galp Energia fell 2.08% to close at €20.71.
Among the top decliners, Redes Energéticas Nacionais dropped 1.54% to €3.51, while Jerónimo Martins fell 0.88% to €18.00. In contrast, Mota Engil led advancers with a 3.88% gain to €4.82, followed by CTT Correios de Portugal at 0.46% to €6.59.
Energy prices moved higher as Brent crude futures for November delivery rose 0.64% to $87.50 per barrel. October WTI crude futures advanced 0.52% to $82.66. Gold futures for December delivery gained 0.16% to $4,660.81 per troy ounce.
The euro held steady against the dollar, with EUR/USD trading flat at 1.17, while EUR/GBP remained unchanged at 0.86. The U.S. Dollar Index futures rose 0.02% to 99.07.
