Poland’s stock market closed lower on Tuesday as the WIG30 index declined 0.78% in Warsaw, pressured by losses across basic materials and chemicals sectors. Advancing stocks trailed decliners by 200 to 326, with 118 issues unchanged.
Among the WIG30’s top performers, coal producer Jastrzebska Spotka Weglowa SA (JSW) rose 2.59% to 28.11 zloty, while grocery chain Dino Polska SA (DNP) added 2.49% to 32.47 zloty. Fashion retailer MODIVO SA (MDVP) gained 1.74% to close at 92.50 zloty.
The index’s steepest declines included copper miner KGHM Polska Miedz SA (KGH), which fell 3.10% to 334.50 zloty, utility Enea SA (ENAE), down 2.01% to 19.50 zloty, and Bank Millennium SA (MILP), which dropped 1.77% to 21.12 zloty.
Commodities showed mixed signals, with October Brent crude rising 1.23% to $91.99 per barrel and October U.S. crude up 1.48% to $84.98 per barrel. December gold futures, however, slipped 1.31% to $4,415.10 per troy ounce.
The Polish zloty strengthened against the euro and dollar, with EUR/PLN up 0.39% at 4.33 and USD/PLN rising 0.37% to 3.74. The U.S. Dollar Index futures held steady at 99.53.
