Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) completed the purchase of Hugging Face for about $12.9 billion, according to the company’s filing. Hugging Face operates a collaborative platform that hosts pre‑trained AI models, datasets and open‑source machine‑learning libraries, offering free cloud spaces and inference environments with some paid tiers.
Nvidia says the acquisition will help keep developers within its ecosystem by making it easier to move models built on Hugging Face to Nvidia‑powered hardware, thereby capturing more of the open‑source AI developer base. The deal is not expected to be an immediate earnings driver; Nvidia reported nearly $100 billion in cash, debt and equity securities on its balance sheet at the end of its most recent quarter.
