Japan's stock market ended lower on Thursday, with the Nikkei 225 falling 0.14% as declines in transport, communications and industrial sectors weighed on sentiment.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange saw 1,789 advancing issues against 1,656 decliners, with 290 stocks unchanged. The Nikkei Volatility Index, tracking implied volatility for Nikkei 225 options, held steady at 30.41.
Among the index's top performers, Kioxia Holdings led gains with a 5% rise to 52,500 yen, followed by Furukawa Electric at 4,089 yen, up 4.71%. Shift Inc added 4.1% to close at 966.80 yen.
On the downside, Advantest Corp led decliners with a 3.05% drop to 34,610 yen, while Ebara Corp fell 2.78% to 4,821 yen and Yamaha Motor declined 2.48% to 1,906.50 yen.
Commodities traded mixed, with October crude oil futures down 1.73% to $80.81 per barrel and November Brent crude falling 1.64% to $85.51. December gold futures edged up 0.09% to $4,657.56 per troy ounce.
The yen held steady against major peers, with the USD/JPY pair little changed at 159.33 and EUR/JPY at 185.70. The US Dollar Index futures were flat at 99.09.
