MSA Safety (NYSE: MSA) introduced the G1 City Edition self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), a connected firefighting device that integrates LUNAR Beacon Technology into its power module to help locate personnel during emergency operations.
The product, announced on Sep 23, 2026, builds on the existing G1 line with a redesigned carrier that meets the 2025 edition of NFPA 1970, the performance standard for structural and proximity firefighting gear.
In standard configuration, the G1 City Edition weighs up to half a pound less than the previous G1 model. When paired with the cylinder retention system, the company said the apparatus is more than 10 percent lighter than the standard G1 SCBA retention band.
Design changes were made based on firefighter feedback, including a low-profile swiveling lumbar pad, thicker regulator and cylinder-valve controls sized for gloved operation, redesigned shoulder pads, and longer pull straps.
When paired with a LUNAR Connected Device, the SCBA can display air-pressure readings, alarm status, and location data through MSA's FireGrid Monitor application, provided connectivity is available. The unit is powered by a single rechargeable battery and includes integrated telemetry capabilities.
Steve Blanco, MSA Safety president and CEO, said the G1 City Edition was designed to address departmental needs while enabling fire services to integrate connected technologies into their operations.
MSA Safety reported 2025 revenues of $1.9 billion and employs more than 5,300 associates across more than 40 international locations. At the time of publication, shares traded at $178.91, up $1.66 or 0.94%.
