MMG’s shares advanced nearly 3% at the Monday open after the company restarted operations at its Las Bambas copper mine in Peru, two days after halting production following a fatal accident that killed two workers.
The mine and processing plant resumed operations on August 21, ending a brief suspension that followed the incident. The restart comes as Las Bambas remains central to MMG’s 2026 copper output target of 380,000 to 400,000 tons.
The share gain contrasted with broader market weakness, as Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index fell 2% in a negative session. Analysts noted that while the operational restart supports near-term production, safety incidents often prompt caution among institutional investors in the days following such events.
