MMG Ltd’s Hong Kong shares rose 2.8% to HK$9.59 on Monday after the company resumed operations at its Las Bambas copper mine and processing plant in Peru.
Operations at the mine and processing facility restarted on August 21, ending a temporary suspension that began on August 19. The halt followed an accident on August 18 that resulted in two fatalities and three injuries among workers.
Las Bambas, one of the world’s largest copper mines, is a key revenue driver for MMG, an Australia-based mining company with Chinese backing. The facility’s restart comes after an earlier brief production halt earlier in August, underscoring ongoing operational challenges at the site.
The resumption of activities at Las Bambas follows immediate safety assessments and corrective measures implemented after the accident. MMG has not provided additional details on the nature of the incident or the steps taken to prevent future occurrences.
