McEwen Inc. announced a leadership transition at its copper division, naming a successor to Chief Operating Officer William Shaver, who is retiring after more than five decades in mining.
Shaver, who spent 46 years in the industry and four at McEwen, will remain on the board of directors of McEwen Copper. The company said it plans to honor his contributions by naming a new ramp at the Stock Mine in Timmins the "William Shaver Ramp."
McEwen Copper, 46.3% owned by McEwen, also promoted three executives to senior leadership roles. Channa Kumarage was named Vice President of Operations, overseeing all operating mines. He previously served as Director of Technical Services and played a key role in bringing the Froome mine at the Fox Complex in Timmins into production. Kumarage holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mineral Engineering from the University of Toronto and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario.
Kevin Bromfield was promoted to Vice President of Development Projects, leading teams for the Grey Fox mine at the Fox Complex, the Tartan Mine Project in Flin Flon, Manitoba, and the Lookout Mountain and Windfall projects at the Gold Bar Mine Complex in Nevada. Bromfield holds a B.Sc. in Mining Engineering from Queen's University and an Executive MBA from the Ivey School of Business.
Zahir Jina was appointed Vice President of Permitting, Government Relations and Sustainability, bringing more than 15 years of experience in environmental management and permitting. His prior roles include positions at SLR Consulting, Wyloo, Treasury Metals, Teck Coal and Anglo American.
Vice-Chairman Ian Ball will work alongside the three promoted executives as McEwen advances its operational and development pipeline. The company’s strategic focus centers on current production, mine construction and permitting, aiming to achieve a target of 250,000 to 300,000 gold-equivalent ounces annually by 2030.
