London Gas Oil futures climbed to $1,282.99 by 13:32 UTC on Monday, up 1.62% or $20.49, as the contract approached the upper boundary of a mid-range consolidation zone between $1,215 and $1,295.
The session’s advance followed a bearish Marubozu candle on Aug. 24, which briefly pushed prices below the $1,240-$1,270 no-trade zone before reversing. Technical resistance remains defined at $1,295, while the SuperTrend indicator stood at $1,237.22, signaling potential downside if the market fails to sustain gains above this level.
The 200-day simple moving average (SMA) held at $1,158.41, providing a longer-term support floor. Average True Range (ATR) was recorded at $17.25, reflecting moderate intraday volatility. Traders monitoring the contract noted a Fibonacci 23.6% retracement level at $1,215, marking the lower rectangle boundary of the consolidation phase.
Two bearish trade scenarios were outlined by analysts. An aggressive bearish setup targeted entries at $1,235 with a stop at $1,261, aiming for levels at $1,183, $1,146, and $1,090, yielding risk/reward ratios of 2.0, 3.4, and 5.6 respectively. A conservative approach proposed entries at $1,210, with the same stop and targets, favoring swing traders with medium confidence. Both scenarios hinge on a break below $1,215 to invalidate near-term bullish momentum.
The contract’s position within the $1,240-$1,270 no-trade zone further complicates short-term positioning, as a sustained move above $1,261 would invalidate the short-term bear thesis. Analysts cautioned that a failure to clear $1,295 could prompt a pullback toward the lower consolidation boundary at $1,215.
