Lamb Weston Holdings Inc. told investors on Tuesday that a margin reset is underway as the frozen potato products manufacturer navigates persistent cost inflation and evolving consumer demand patterns.
Speaking at the Bank of America SMID-cap virtual conference, executives highlighted efforts to stabilize margins through pricing adjustments, operational efficiencies and supply chain optimizations. The company, which processes and distributes frozen potato products globally, faces ongoing pressure from elevated input costs, including energy and packaging expenses, while managing shifts in retail and foodservice demand post-pandemic.
Chief Executive Officer Tom Werner emphasized the company’s commitment to restoring profitability, noting that pricing actions taken in recent quarters are beginning to offset cost headwinds. Werner added that Lamb Weston is targeting mid-single-digit percentage margin recovery over the next 12 to 18 months, contingent on stable commodity prices and sustained volume growth.
Analysts at the conference pressed management on the sustainability of pricing power amid competitive dynamics in the frozen foods segment. Lamb Weston reiterated its focus on premium product lines, which have shown resilience in both retail and foodservice channels, as a key lever for margin expansion.
The company also discussed capital allocation priorities, including investments in automation and sustainability initiatives, which are expected to contribute to long-term margin improvements. Lamb Weston closed at $72.45 on Monday, up 1.2% year-to-date, underperforming the S&P 500 Food Products index, which is up 3.4% over the same period.
