Lam Research Corp. inaugurated the groundbreaking of its largest-ever research and development expansion in Oregon on August 26, 2026, marking the first phase of a planned investment exceeding $3 billion in its global lab network over the next five years.
The new 11,148 square-meter facility in Tualatin will increase cleanroom space at the company’s existing R&D center by more than 50%, with completion targeted for 2028. The three-year construction period is expected to generate $500 million in economic output and support over 11,000 jobs across the state, according to company projections.
Upon completion, the expansion will add more than 400 direct jobs at Lam Research, elevating the company’s annual economic contribution in Oregon to over $1.8 billion. The facility will focus on advanced deposition and etch processes, materials science, and hardware validation, reinforcing the company’s specialized capabilities.
Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer Sesha Varadarajan highlighted the project’s strategic importance, stating the new lab will deepen specialized expertise and expand collaboration with clients. U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley, Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici, and Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read attended the ceremony, alongside senior leaders from Intel Corporation and Micron Technology.
