K92 Mining Ltd. on Monday announced a leadership transition, with Chief Operating Officer John Medilek set to assume the role of CEO following the departure of John Lewins.
Lewins, who had served as CEO since 2020, will step down effective immediately, the company said in a statement. Medilek, who joined K92 in 2017 and previously held roles including COO and vice president of operations, will take over leadership responsibilities immediately.
K92 Mining did not disclose the reasons for Lewins' departure in its announcement. The company emphasized that the transition aligns with a strategic review of its operations, though no further details were provided. Medilek's appointment was approved by the board, the company said.
The Vancouver-based gold miner, which operates the Kainantu gold mine in Papua New Guinea, said it remains focused on operational execution and growth initiatives under the new leadership. K92 did not provide a timeline for the strategic review or specify potential changes to its business plan.
Shares of K92 Mining were down 2.1% in premarket trading following the announcement. The company’s stock has declined approximately 15% over the past month amid broader weakness in gold equities.
