Italian equities closed lower on Thursday, with the Índice Investing.com Itália 40 falling 1.16% in Milan as financial and utility stocks weighed on the benchmark. Declining issues outnumbered advancers 356 to 320, with 49 stocks unchanged.
The retreat was led by losses in financial services and public utilities, while technology and automotive shares provided limited support. Among individual movers, STMicroelectronics advanced 2.92% to close at €43.58, Stellantis rose 2.58% to €4.58, and DiaSorin gained 1.77% to end at €77.00.
On the downside, Hera fell 3.32% to €3.79, UniCredit dropped 3.17% to €83.42, and Banco BPM declined 2.12% to €15.93.
Commodity prices rose, with October crude oil futures up 0.56% at $82.69 per barrel and November Brent crude up 0.68% at $87.53. December gold futures gained 0.16% to $4,660.60 per troy ounce.
Foreign exchange markets showed little movement, with the EUR/USD pair flat at 1.17 and EUR/GBP unchanged at 0.86. The US Dollar Futures Index edged up 0.03% to 99.06.
