Israel’s largest cryptocurrency broker, Bits of Gold, disclosed on Sunday that a data breach may have exposed sensitive customer information, including names, bank account details, and national ID numbers.
The company stated that no funds or digital assets were compromised in the incident, which it described as part of a broader global cyberattack. Bits of Gold did not provide further details on the nature of the attack or the timeline of the breach.
The breach affects approximately 200,000 customers, according to the company’s announcement. Bits of Gold has not yet disclosed whether law enforcement or cybersecurity agencies have been notified or are investigating the incident.
Cybersecurity experts warn that exposed national ID numbers and bank details could increase the risk of identity theft and financial fraud. The company has advised affected customers to monitor their accounts and report any suspicious activity.
Bits of Gold is a licensed cryptocurrency service provider in Israel and has been operational since 2013. The company did not respond to requests for additional comment on mitigation or preventive measures implemented following the breach.
