IREN delivers first AI data center to Microsoft in Texas

IREN announced the delivery of its first artificial intelligence (AI)-focused data center to Microsoft in Texas, expanding its presence in the U.S. cloud infrastructure market.

The facility, located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, represents IREN’s initial foray into AI-optimized data center development, aligning with growing demand for high-performance computing infrastructure. Microsoft, a key player in the global cloud services sector, will utilize the center to support AI workloads, including machine learning and large-scale data processing.

IREN, a data center developer and operator, did not disclose financial terms of the agreement. The company has previously focused on traditional data center projects but is now targeting AI-driven applications as a growth area. The Texas facility is designed to meet the power and cooling requirements of AI workloads, which typically demand higher energy and infrastructure capabilities than conventional data centers.

The announcement follows Microsoft’s broader push to expand its AI infrastructure, including partnerships with other providers to build data centers across the U.S. and Europe.
