International Business Machines Corp. shares climbed 3% in premarket trading on Thursday as investors responded to the company’s upbeat outlook for artificial intelligence and hybrid cloud services.
The technology giant’s stock, which has lagged broader market gains in recent months, gained momentum following its latest earnings guidance. Analysts noted that IBM’s focus on AI-driven solutions and cloud infrastructure is resonating with enterprise clients seeking scalable and secure technology platforms.
The company’s hybrid cloud segment, which combines on-premises and cloud-based services, continues to expand as corporations prioritize digital transformation. IBM’s AI portfolio, including its Watsonx platform, has also drawn increased interest from sectors such as healthcare, finance, and manufacturing.
While IBM’s traditional hardware and IT services businesses remain under pressure from competitive pricing and shifting market dynamics, its strategic pivot toward higher-margin software and cloud solutions appears to be gaining traction. The company’s management reiterated confidence in its long-term growth trajectory, citing strong demand for AI integration and data analytics tools.
Shares of IBM were trading at $178.45 in premarket activity, up from Wednesday’s close of $173.20. The stock has gained approximately 8% over the past month, outperforming the S&P 500’s 4% advance during the same period.
