Hyperfine Inc. (NASDAQ: HYPR) announced that its portable MRI system, the Swoop, completed more than 3,000 brain scans across physician practices within its first year of commercial availability in office-based markets.
The milestone was highlighted alongside findings from a study published in the Journal of Neuroimaging, which evaluated the device’s performance in real-world neurology settings. In a blinded neuroradiology review, the Swoop demonstrated 92% concordance with high-field MRI in identifying the presence or absence of structural abnormalities. Concordance with clinical information reached 98%, according to the study.
Patient experience data showed a four-to-one preference for the portable MRI over high-field alternatives, with respondents citing superior comfort, reduced anxiety and claustrophobia, lower noise levels, and an overall better experience. The Swoop, an ultra-low-field MRI device cleared by the FDA for brain imaging across all age groups, operates in standard exam rooms without specialized shielding and runs on conventional electrical power.
Trained clinical staff can operate the system, which is designed for use in general neurology, headache clinics, memory centers, pediatric neurology offices, concierge medicine, and longevity clinics to support neurological evaluation and disease monitoring. Hyperfine noted that the 3,000 scans reflect real-world adoption and workflow integration in outpatient settings.
Laszlo Mechtler, President of DENT Neurologic Institute and principal investigator of the NEURO PMR study, said point-of-care brain imaging represents a key advancement in outpatient neurology, enabling faster diagnostic access, improved patient comfort, and a more efficient care model. Chi Nguyen, Hyperfine’s Senior Vice President of Office & Community Business, added that the scan volume demonstrates the system’s practical utility and alignment with clinical workflows.
